The Debut of Ultraman Max!
Ultraman Max comes from one the “Red Type” of Ultra warrior, similar to Ultraseven. This series will bring the franchise back to the time where Ultraman is a professional “Kaiju buster” from M-78 nebula. The fearsome kaijus (Eleking, Baltan, Gomora etc) from Heisei era will return, and every week Ultraman Max will battle a different creature. A return to the good old days!

The 6 “S” Maxims of Ultraman Max
The new series will abide by the 6 Maxims: [1] STORY: The story will be exciting and fun. [2] SIMPLE: The story is to have depth yet at the same time the drama will be simple and accessible. [3] SPEED: The action sequences will be fast-paced and dazzling. [4] STRONG: Max is to be a brave, strong and inspirational hero. [5] S.F: This story will return to its roots as a science fiction drama. [6] SENSE of WONDER: This story is to stoke the imagination of people from all over the world, and to allow them to experience the incredible.

The production staff is made up of the dream team - Shusuke Kaneko (金子修介), of Gamera, Godzilla and Ultra Q ~ Dark Fantasy ~ fame, will be taking the helm of the first two episodes. According to news sources, cult-director Takashi Miike (三池崇史), who directed films such as Yokai Daisenso and Zebraman will also be co-directing some episodes in this series. The legendary Ishiro Honda (本多猪四郎) will serve as the inspiration for these young directors. The other members of the production dream team includes Kenji Suzuki (鈴木健二) and Hirochika Muraishi (村石宏實).

The lead character - Kaito transforms into Ultraman Max with the “Max Spark” device. Though new, the hero will be showing off the familiar moves - the L-shaped arm pose sends out the deadly “Maxium Cannon” beam and the Eye Slugger fin-weapon returns in the style of “Maxium Sword". Similarly, Ultraman Max will also be restricted by the 3-mins time limit. When the time is running out, the blue-lit ‘Power Timer’ will start blinking in red.

The KING Returns
Eleking returns in the second episode of Ultraman Max. In this episode, Eleking invades the city to feed on the power grid. The creature wrecks the power infrastructure as it feeds. This Eleking, is no push over as compared to the original one from Ultraseven. The new Eleking is armed with sharp claws and has a violent attitude match.

庵野　秀明 (Hideki Anno) of NEO GENESIS EVANGELION fame, directed this parody of “RETURN OF ULTRAMAN”

This short film was directed and produced by Hideki Anno as a promotional piece for the 4th DAICON, a Japanese Sci-fi convention held in 1983.

Our Ultra-friend, Wurotzman aka da Wu-man, from across the Causeway has just sent us this rather interesting Ultraman footage from “Ultraman: The Great Decisive Battle” dubbed in Bahasa Melayu.

In this movie, Ultraman King assembled the 11 Ultra Fighters (see picture above) at the SilverPlaza. Earth is under the treat of another Kaiju invasion and the Ultra fighters had to be dispatched to save the world from destruction.

This movie is produced in the same fashion as the Zoffy Movie (ウルトラマンZOFFY) and the Taro movie (ウルトラマン物語) - some original takes spliced together with archived footages. This 100mins movie was released in 1979, with Tetsuo Kinjyo (金城哲夫) as the producer. Tetuso Kinjyo, a native from Okinawa, is an important figure in Ultraman’s history and he is an indispensable creative director on Eiji Tsuburaya’s team.

This movie featured the ‘live’ appearance of Ultraman Jonias battling the live version of the animated kaiju, BEDORAN.

This movie also featured another original sequence of Ultraman the First battling Alien Baltan. Ultraman (note the Type C mask) fights Baltan (note the red beams instead of sparks that shoots from Baltan’s claws) in another re-match before a temple.

(Note: This is not the lost footage from Episode 2 whereby The First ripped a claw off Baltan when they were in the woods)

Once a upon a time not too long ago (1993, to be exact), Bandai-Emotion released a direct-to-video docu-movie on the two titanic icons of Japanese SFX genre - Ultraman and Kamen Rider.

This 90-mins film did a comparison of the characters, transformation sequences, powers, attack teams, monsters between the two family of heroes. The line up of Ultraman included all the characters from The First to Ultraman Great, while those from the Kamen Rider team ranged from Kamen Rider 01 to Shin Kamen Rider.

The “versus” may have suggested a slug-fest between all Ultramen and all the Kamen Riders, but “versus” here is only limited to the comparisons. At the end of the show, Ultraman and Kamen Rider 01 tag-teamed to combat the kaiju “GADRAS", an original creature designed for this Tsuburaya-Toei crossover production.

In this original footage, SHOCKER sent Scorpion-man on a mission to destroy Tokyo city. He was assisted by a giant kaiju, Gadras. Hayata and Hongo rushed to the scene of attack. They transform.

Scorpion-man later combined with the kaiju to form the final evolved form of Gadras. Ultraman and Kamen Rider 01 excuted their combination attack to save the day. And the moral of the story is: Ultraman and Kamen Rider are friends, and Ultraman-fans and KamenRider-fans rule!

Finalburnx had made available the 66min, chinese subtitled version via Anarion’s site (Ultraman vs Kamen Rider - Japanese with Mandarin subtitles - 352x240 - 29fps.avi). According to Anarion, he will be putting up the 90mins raw version soon. The 90mins video includes interviews with actors and designers. アナリオン－さん、がんばって！

A funny skit featuring J-pop heart throb Kimura Takuya (木村拓哉) is a convenience store clerk who thinks he can become the “Aultraman” to save the world from the kaiju menace.

After several failed attempts to transform, Takuya wakes up one morning and found himself “upsized". Unwittingly, he destroyed his own house and part of the neighbourhood when he gigantized. While the neighbourhood was being evacuated, a man in a familiar looking orange uniform drew something phallic out of his vest and pointed it to the sky. Ultraman came by to save the situation . . .

Synopsis:
During a leisure cruise in space , an Earth vessel encountered a battle involving an Ultra warrior. The Space Garrison is in pursuit of the entity which had stolen the “Goudes” cell. But this was a bait by the alien Yaburu, who seeks revenge against Ultraman Ace! However, the greater threat comes from the DARK GIANT that had returned. The Ultra warriors’ greatest hope, lies in the first messenger, NOA!

Ultraman Tiga made his debut in Shanghai on 1 May 2004 at the “International Character Expo 2004″ (2004动漫形象博览会). This event was held at Shanghai Pudong Zhenda Plaza (上海浦东正大广场 ). This event was put together by some Shanghai media organ (海世纪出版集团, 上海文广新闻传媒集团, 解放日报报业集团 and 上海浦东新区文化广播电视管理局).

Ultraman Tiga commenced broadcast during August 2004 in the People’s Republic of China. For the dubbed-in-Mandarin series, Shanghai’s Tsuburaya Corp had recorded two new mandarin songs for the opening and ending theme.

The opening theme “奇迹再先” (Miracle) is sang by Mao Mao (毛毛).

The ending theme “永远的奥特曼” (Forever Ultraman) is performed by a newly formed female duo pop group, known as LINE. The two girls, Ji Yi (稽伊) & (Mei Nisa - Melissa?) 梅妮莎 were selected from a pool few hundred thousand idol-hopefuls.
